Jia Wei Xiao Yao San (加味逍遙散)

Jia Wei Xiao Yao San (加味逍遙散)

This formula is used when qi is unable to transform into metal (Cold-transfomanion).

In Jia Wei Xiao Yao San,

Chai Hu (柴胡) is used to relieve liver depression,

Mu Dan Pi (牧丹皮) is used to cool the blood while helping to raise and lower it,

Shao Yao (芍藥) is used to astringe, and

Dang Gui (當歸) is used to nourish the blood.

However, the blood itself receives nourishment from water (水) and grows into wood (木), with its roots planted in the soil (土). Like the liver function that is expressed by receiving daily nutrition, the roots are planted in the center of the soil, and the life force is in the water. Therefore, while herbs such as Dang Gui and Shao Yao are used to nourish the blood, those containing Bai Zhu and Fu Ling, which generate nutrition in the center of the soil, and provide nourishment to the liver through postnatal means, are included in the composition of Jia Wei Xiao Yao San.

Additionally, if there is hyperactivity, heat remains in the upper body, and in order to resolve this, Bo He (薄荷) is used, and Gan Cao (甘草) is included to neutralize the effect while providing nourishment to the middle palace.
