Shape (形) refers to
essence, qi, spirit, and blood (精氣神血).
Image (象) refers to
five viscera and six bowels.
Pulse (脈) refers to

Pattern (證) refers

1) as it is said the above, male has the Way
of 乾 (qian, heaven), male is concerned with the image
of that something piled up in the heaven the heaven (upper part) falls downward
so that has the figure of an inverted triangle (wide shoulder and narrow
buttock). And female has the Way of the 坤 (kun, earth),
female is concerned with the image of something piled up in the earth (lower
part) goes upward so that has the figure of a regular triangle (wide buttock
and narrow shoulder).
In general, men have wide shoulder and narrow
buttock, women have wide buttock and narrow shoulder. This is favorable image. But,
if woman has wide shoulder, this belongs to disease.
It was hard for her to conceive. She has
the figure of a man, how can she be pregnant? In 東醫寶鑑, 婦人門, it is said that if the qi of a woman is more exuberant than blood,
she fails to conceive. Even if she is pregnant, miscarriage occurs easily. In case
of this, the medicine which drains qi or supplements blood should be used.
If a woman looks like a man or a man like a
woman, this is considered as the shape and sign of phlegm (痰飮). The signs and shape of the phlegm appear.
