12. In greater yin warm
disease, if thirst
is severe, wash mouth Xue Li Jiang (雪梨浆)
and take that. When spitting of saliva with white forth, if it dose not feel
fresh, wash mouth with Wu Zhi Yin (五汁饮)
and take hat.
This
line is the method to save fluid with sweet and cold.

Take and slice a pear which is big and has lots of sweet water, soak this in the fresh cold water for half
day, and then take this from time to time.

Take this cool. If one does not like cold thing, heat this in a
water bath.
13. Greater yin disease has been last two or three
days, there is mild yellow coating in the tongue, pulse which is large and
strong in inch, heart vexation, anguish, fidgetiness whether standing or lying,
a desire to retch but with failing to vomit, if there is absence of middle
burner pattern, Zhi Zi Chi tang (栀子豉汤, Gardenia and Fermented Soybean
Decoction) governs this.
In
the second or third days of warm
disease, whether sweat issues
or not, if there is mild yellow coating, this means that evil is not only in the
lung. if the pulse in inch is large and strong, and there is heart vexation,
anguish, fidgetiness whether standing or lying, and a desire to retch but with
failing to vomit,; this means that evil is in the diaphragm of the upper
burner. When it is on high, one has to trace [it] and disperse it, therefore Zhi Zi (栀子) is used to eject
evil out and Xiang Chi (香豉) is used to open stagnant qi.
Zhi Zi Chi tang (栀子豉汤, Gardenia and Fermented Soybean Decoction)

Zhi Zi (栀子, cursh, five
pieces) Xiang Dou Chi (香豆豉, six qian)
Decoct Zhi Zi (栀子) with four cups
of water, when this boils up, add Xiang
Chi (香豉), and decoct
again, and then take two cups, first take one cup warm. If one vomits after
taking this, do not take this any more.
14. in the second or third days of greater yindisease, there is heart vexation,
anxiety, exuberant phlegm, and stuffiness and congestion in the chest with a
desire to vomit, if there is absence of middle burner pattern, Gua Di San (瓜蒂散, Melon Pedicle
Powder) governs this. If the person is vacuity, add Shen Lu (参芦)
The difference between this line and the previous line is the one
of slightness and severeness, and existence or nonexistence of phlegm. Heavy medicine
(重劑) cannot be used carelessly, but light medicine
cannot treat severe disease.
In the above line, Zhi Zi Chi Tang (栀子豉汤) ejects the heat in the diaphragm slightly, but this
case has exuberant phlegm, Gua Di
San (瓜蒂散, Melon Pedicle
Powder) has to be used to vomit phlem out urgently. Because there is worry that
heat evil enters pericardium and causes reversal (厥也). The
bitter and cold of Gua Di (瓜蒂) and Zhi Zi (栀子) combine with the
sweet and sour of Chi Xiao Dou (赤小豆). It is said that sour and
bitter which have an action of ejecting, become yin. As like this, the sour and
bitter is good at vomiting heat
phlegm out. And Gua Di San (瓜蒂散), as like Zhi Zi Chi Tang (栀子豉汤), also traces and disperses evil when it is on high.

there is vomiting, there is no need to take this again, if there is no

15. In
greater yin warm disease, if the pulse in inch is large and the
tonge is strong red and dry, there should be thirst logically, but there is
absence of thirst, this is because heat is in the construction part, Qing Ying Tang Qu
Huang Lian (Qing Ying Tang (清营汤, Clear the Nutrition Level
Decoction)去黄连, Clear the Nutrition
Level Decoction Minus Rhizoma Coptidis) governs this.

16. Greater
yin warm disease cannot be treated with promotion of sweating. In
spite of taking medicine for promotion of sweating, if sweat dose not issues,
there will be macula and eruption, if sweat issues excessively, there will be
loss of consciousness and delirious speech. Macula should be treated with Hua Ban
Tang (化 macula汤 Transform
Macula Decoction). Eruption should be treated with Yin Qiao San Qu Dou Chi Jia Sheng
Di Mu Dan Pi Da Qing Ye Bei Yuan Shen. Herbs as Sheng Ma (升麻), Chai Hu (柴胡), Dang Gui (当归), Fang Feng (防风), Qiang Huo (羌活), Bai Zhi (白芷), Ge Gen (葛根), and San Cun Liu (三春柳) should not used. Loss
of consciousness and delirious speech should be treated with Qing Ying Tang
(Qing Ying Tang (清营汤, Clear the Nutrition Level
Decoction)), and also Niu Huang Wan (牛黄丸), Zi Xue Dan (紫雪丹), and Ju Fang Zhi Bao Dan (局方至宝丹) can treat this.
The reason to contraindicate drugs for promotion of sweating on
warm disease is that the disease
invades through mouth and nose so that the evil is not in the exterior of the
foot greater, therefore drugs for promotion of sweating can damage greater yang
channel. Nowadays, doctors do not know this and use drugs for promotion of
sweating wrongly. In the case of patient, heat is severe and blood is dry, so
the one cannot steam sweat and warm evil
gets stagnat in the blood part of the flesh exterior, therefore macula and eruption will occur. If the
exterior is inseure, once sweating is promoted, sweating will not stop. Sweat
is the heart humor, erroneous sweating causes yang collapse and heat yang gets
damaged and spirit light gets cofused. Damaged heart humor brings about the
vauity of heart blood, the body of the heart is yin [humor], if heart yin
cannot help heat yang, only heat yang gets exuberant, the heart controls
speech, therefore delirious speech
occurs without pause. Almost people do not know ‘the pathogen attacking the
pericardium adversely (hand 经逆传, 逆传heart 包). if hand greater yin disease does not resolve,
definitely this transmisses into hand reverting yin pericardium, in addition to
this, drugs for promotion of sweating will damage the qi and blood more!

until eight cups of water becomes three cups, take this three times a day,
decoct again the dregs with water until this is to be one cup, take this at

“heat is excessive in the interior, treate
with salty and cold and
assist with bitter and sweet”, this method is applied into this formula.
ancient people make Hua Ban Tang (化 macula汤) with
Bai Hu Tang (白虎汤, White Tiger Decoction), because they thinks
Macula and eruption are related with yang
brightness pattern. Yang brightness controls the flesh, so if macula occurs,
whole body gets red and this comes out from the interior and exterior. Therefore Shi Gao (石膏) clears the heat of the lung and stomach, Zhi Mu (知母) clears metal to preserve the lung and treats the heat of yang brightness. Gan Cao (甘草) clears heat,
resolves toxin, and harmonizes
the middle. Geng Mi (粳米) clears stomach heat to preserve stomach humor. Geng Mi (粳米) is the grain related with yang brightness dry metal. In this book, Yuan Shen (元参) and Xi
Jiao (犀角) are especially
added. The color of macula is red, macula is excessvie wood and fire disease,
and the change of the disease is very swift, but, Bai hu Tang (白虎湯) is related with dry and metal and clears and depurates the upper
burner, there is worry that this formula cannot take charge of this disease.
Therefore Yuan Shen is added to communicate with the lung by opening the qi of
kidney channel, this make water and heaven (kidney and lung) circulate
endlessly. Xi Jiao (犀角) is salty and cold, and is
supplied with the qi of water, wood, and fire which are in engendering
relationship. This is a horn of marvelous animal with the body of stong yang,
treats one hundreds toxin, parasitic toxin, evil ghost, and miasmic toxin. If
the bitter and cold saves kidney water by helping heart fire, macula is
expressed outward, toxin is eliminated,
and warm malaria retreats. And if the disease
reaches to the stage of occurring of macula, this means that heat evil is not
only in the qi part, therefore the two herbs which cloo blood are added.
Yin Qiao San Qu Dou Chi Jia Sheng Di Mu Dan Pi
Da Qing Ye Bei Yuan Shen (银翘散去豆豉加细生地牧丹皮大青叶倍元参)
This formula removes Dou Chi (豆豉) and adds Sheng Di (生地, four qian)Da Qing Ye (大青叶, three qian)Mu Dan Pi (牧丹皮, three qian)Yuan Shen (元参, can be added to one liang)in Yin Qiao
San (银翘散, Honeysuckle and Forsythia Powder) in the above.

Four herbs are added to clear blood heat. Dou Chi (豆豉) is eliminated due to the warm nature.
按∶ Tuo Li Ju Ban Tang (托里举 macula汤, Drain
the Interior and Lift the macula Decoction) is created by Wu You Ke (吳又可), in the name of it eruption(疹) is not mentioned, becuses he thinks macula (
macula) is same with
eruption. Considering this, eruption occurs 70~80% in case of warm disease.
Macula occurs 20~30% in the case of wram disease. Generally macula is
characterized by red skin or large spot, and this is the disease of the flesh, therefore
Hua Ban Tang (化 macula汤 Transform Macula Decoction) governs this and
treats only the flesh. Eruption is erupting of small red spot such as measles
and exanthema. This is the disease of blood network, therefore this should be
treated with aroma which thrusts out network, pungent and cool which resolves
the flesh, and sweet and cold which clears blood. In Tuo Li Ju Ban Tang (托里举
macula汤) there is Dang Gui, Sheng Ma, Chai Gu, Bai Zhi, and
Chuan Shan Jia which’s nature are warm
and dry, how isn’t he afraid of them to scorchi the fluids? From old times, there is accurate treatment that smallpox (痘) should be treated with warming and eruption (疹) should be treated with cooling. Moreover, warm eruption (溫疹) is more related heat nature than children’s wind and heat eruption.
Wu You Ke (吳又可 ) uses Sheng Ma (升麻) and Chai Hu (柴胡) to take their action of upbearing
and effusion, this means that he does not know that warm disease occurs mainly in the spring and summer when yang qi upbears and
spreads. At those seasons, the qi of heaven and earth only keeps ascending
without descending, how one can use durgs related with upbearing and effusion?
Nei Jing (內經) says that person
who stores essence in winter, does not contract warm disease. This indicates
that the person with warm
disease is in the condition that essence qi in the lower burner has not been
secured for long time. In those condistion, how one can raise the qi of lesser yang. This brings about lower exhaustion
upper reversal (下竭上厥). Nei Jing (內經) says ‘do not make replete person to be replete and do not make
vacuous person to be vacuous, when using drugs to treat disase, one must be
aware of the condition of Qi in the year, and must not damage natural harmony”,
doctors must know this. The reason that posterity follow the stupidity of Wu
You Ke (吳又可) is that they do not read the original text
(经文).
再按∶ theses days, after using of exterior-effusing
formula to warm heat disease for 2-3 days, if there is no issueing of sweat,
doctors tend to say that macula
is hidden and not only use Sheng Ma, Chai Hu, Qiang Huo, and Ge Gen but also
effuse macula with Shan Chuan Liu (山川柳). They do not know the following case. Shan Chuan Liu (山川柳) blooms three times a year, therefore it is also called San Chun (三春 three times of spring), among the people, the pronunciation of San
Chun (三春) becomes Shan Chuan (山川). The nature is great pungent and great warm, the growth speed is
very fast, the twig is very thin and this runs into network. This is herb completely
to effuse white eruption (白疹) due to vacuous cold. How
can this be used to red eruption due to
the evil of warm and heat?
Generally if the doctor is good at treating warm disease, he/she do not make eruption effuse to the skin. Stagnant evil heat
has been last for 2-3 days or 3-5 days and also there is no sweating, therefore
macula comes out, even though such case occurs, one can make severe case light,
and make light case resolve. Just once, if formula with pungent, warm, and
intense dry is used, qi gets to
take disaster and evil heat will transmit to blood, he/she conforms macula. These days, doctors think that if eruption
has already erupted then that’s ok to be careless about that. But doctors must
be carefull at that time when evil heat is exuberant. And precipitation is
contraindicated to eruption, even though there is internal bind (里结), this
should be free moderately and should not be discharged downward. This can
causes internal vacuity and downward fall. The detailed method in in the middle burner part.

This is the formula for clearing of chest
center with salty, cold, sweet,
and bitter. The reason of naming it with Qing Gong (清宫) because chest center is the palace of the heart. The
formula is composed of the core of the herbs, 凡heart 有生生不已之意, heart 能入heart , 即以清foul
turbidity之品, 便supplements (补heart 中生生不已之生qi, 救性命于微芒也. fire能令人昏, water能令人清, loss of consciousnessdelirious speech, water不足而fire有residual , 又有foul turbidity也. 且离以坎为体, Yuan Shen (元参)味苦属water,
supplements (补离中之虚;Xi Jiao (犀角Ling Shu (靈樞)异味咸, 辟秽resolve毒, 所谓Ling Shu (靈樞)犀一点通. 善通heart
qi, 色黑supplements (补water,
亦能supplements (补离中之虚, therefore (故以二物act as sovereign. 莲heart 甘苦咸, 倒生根,
由heart 走the kidney , 能使heart fire下通于the kidney , 又回环上升, 能使the kidney water上潮于heart , therefore (故以为使. Lian Qiao (连翘)象heart , heart 能retreatsheart heat. Zhu Ye (竹叶)heart 锐而中空, 能通窍清heart , therefore
(故以为assistant. Mai Men Dong (麦winter)之所以用heart 者, 本经称其主heart 腹结qi, 伤中伤饱, the

An Gong Niu Huang Wan
(安宫牛黄丸, Calm the Palace Pill with Cattle Gallstone)
Niu

Grind the
above herbs finely, make them into pills in the size of one qian with honey,
and plate this pill with gold foil, and then wrap up this whit beeswax. If the
pulse is vacuity, drink this with Ren Shen decoction. If the pulse is replete,
drink this with Jin Yin Hua Bo He Decoction (金银花薄荷), one pill at a time. This
also treats Fei Shi (飞尸), sudden syncope (卒厥), five epilepsy, and
Zhong E (中恶), tetanic reversal due to heat in the child and adult. In adult, in the disease is severe and the constitution is
replete, the one can take two or three times a day. Child have to take half
pill, but if there is no improve, then take half pill one more.

this formula has aroma so that eliminates foul turbidity and disinhibits every orifice. The salty and cold preserve
kidney water and calm the body of the heart, the bitter and cold free fire bowel (small intestine) and drain the heart. Niu
Huang (牛黄) is supplied with the essence of sun and moon,
and free to sprit bright which heart governs. Xi Jiao (犀角) treats one hundreds toxin,
evil ghost (evil 鬼), and miasma (瘴氣). Zhen Zhu (真珠) is supplied with the essence of greater yin and frees to spirit light, this with Xi
Jiao (犀角) supplements water
and saves fire. The aroma of Yu Jin (郁金) is from leaf, the aroma of Mei Pian is from wood, the aroma of Xiong
Huang (雄黄) is from
stone, the aroma of She Xiang (麝香) is from anima which is made of essence and blood. These
combination of four aromas let evil heat and warm toxin in the part of reverting yin deep and hard thrust out at one
time, evil turbidity disappears spontaneously and then spirit light can recover.
也. Huang Lian (黄连) drains
heart fire, Zhi Zi (栀子)drains the fire
of the heart and three burners, Huang Qin (黄芩) drains
the fire of the gall bladder and lung,
with the aromatic herbs, evil fire gets dissipated. Zhu Sha (朱砂) supplements the body of the heart (heart 体) and drains the
use of the heart (heart 用), Zhu Sha (朱砂) with gold foil eliminates
phlegm to calm sprit bright. And Zhen Zhu (真珠) and Xi Jiao act as commander who lead military
campaigns.
