脈法 (in head)

Diagnosis by Pulse (in head)

病若頭痛目痛, 脈急短濇者, 死. 《綱目》

 

If one suffers from headache and pain in the eyes with tense, short, and rough pulse, the one will die. 《綱目》

頭痛, 浮滑易除, 短濇不愈. 《得效》

 

Headache with floating and slippery pulse will be cured easily. With short and rough pulse won’t recover. 《得效》

頭痛短澁應須死, 浮滑風痰必易除. 《脈訣》

 

If there is headache with short and rough pulse, the patient will die. If the pulse is floating and slippery, it indicates wind-phlegm, thus can be easily dissipated. 《脈訣》

陽脈弦者頭痛無疑. 《脈訣》

 

If yang pulse is string-like, then there will be headache.

肝脈溢大, 必眩暈, 宜豫防之. 《入門》

 

If the liver pulse is excessively large, then there will be dizziness, thus prevention is needed beforehand.

寸口脈中短者, 頭痛也. 《正傳》

 

If the wrist pulse is short, there will be headache.

寸口緊急, 或浮或短或弦, 皆主頭痛. 《醫鑑》

 

If the wrist pulse is tight and tense, or floating, or short, or string-like, there will be headache.

頭痛陽弦浮風緊寒, 風熱洪數濕細而堅, 氣虛頭痛雖弦必濇, 痰厥則滑腎厥堅實. 《脈訣》

 

When there is a headache, the yang pulse is string-like. If the pulse is floating, it indicates wind evil, if the pulse is tight, this indicates cold evil. In the case of a headache due to wind-heat, the pulse is surging and rapid, in case of headache due to dampness, the pulse is fine and forceful. In the case of headache due to qi deficiency, the pulse is string-like and rought. In case of headache due to phlegm reversal, the pulse is slippery pulse. And in case of a headache due to kidney reveral, the pulse is forceful and replete.

風寒暑濕氣鬱生涎, 下虛上實皆暈而眩, 風浮寒緊濕細暑虛, 涎弦而滑, 虛脈則無. 《脈訣》

 

When enduring of wind, cold, summer heat, or dampness makes qi to stagnate and engender phlegm, or when there is lower deficiency and upper excessiveness, both cuase dizziness. When there is wind, the pulse is floating, when there is cold, the pulse is tight, when there is dampness, the pulse is fine, and when there is summer heat, the pulse is vacuos. When there is phlegm, the pulse is string-like and slippery but not vacuous.

腎厥頭痛, 其脈擧之則弦, 按之則堅. 《丹心》

 

When there is kidney reversal headache, the pulse feels string-like when pressure is applied slightly and forceful when pressure is applied firmly.

頭痛左手脈數, 熱也. 脈澁, 有死血也. 右手脈實, 有痰積也. 脈大是久病. 《丹心》

 

Headache with rapid pulse in the left hand indicates heat, rough pulse means blood stasis. Headache with replete pulse in the right hand means  phlegm accumulation, and large pulse indicates enduring disease.
