(1). Lumbago Due to Kidney Deficiency 腎虛腰痛


 

脈大者, 腎虛腰痛也. 《丹心》

A large pulse indicates lumbago due to a kidney deficiency.

 

腎虛者, 疼之不已者, 是也. 《丹心》

A kidney deficiency is characterized by incessant pain.

 

房慾傷腎, 精血不足養筋, 陰虛悠悠痛, 不能擧者, 六味地黃元, 或八味元方幷見虛勞, 加鹿茸ㆍ當歸ㆍ木瓜ㆍ續斷. 《東垣》

 

When the kidneys are damaged by sexual life, sinews cannot be nourished due to deficient essence blood, and the pain is characterized by incessant one and the person cannot move properly due to due to yin deficiency. Liu Wei Di Huang Tang (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia)or Ba Wei Di Huang Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) with Lu Rong (arvum Cornu 鹿茸), Dang Gui (Angelica Gigantis Radix, 當歸), Mu Gua (Chaenomelis Fructus, 木瓜) and Xu Duan (Dipsaci Radix 續斷) are used.

 

腎虛腰痛, 宜靑娥元ㆍ加味靑娥元ㆍ壯本丹ㆍ局方安腎丸ㆍ補髓丹.

 

To treat lumbago due to a kidney deficiency, Qing E Wan (Beautiful Young Maiden Pill), Jia Wei Qing E Wan (Modified Beautiful Young Maiden Pill) Zhuang Ben Dan (Strengthen Root Elixir), Ju Fang An Shen Wan (Imperial Grace Calm Kidneys Pill), or a Bu Sui Dan (Tonify Marrow Elixir ) should be used.

 

陽虛腰軟不能運用, 宜九味安腎丸ㆍ百倍丸ㆍ杜冲丸ㆍ補腎湯.

 

To treate lumbago with inability to move due to yang deficiency, Jiu Wei An Shen Wan (Nine Ingredients Calm Kidneys Pill), Bai Bei Wan (Hundredfold Pill), Du Chong Wan (Eucommia Pill), or Bu Shen Tang (Tonify Kidneys Decoction) should be used.

 

腰軟者, 肝腎伏熱, 治用黃柏ㆍ防己. 《醫鑑》

 

Weak Lumbus indicates hidden heat in the liver and kidneys. Use Huang Bai (Phellodendri Cortex, 黃柏) and Fang Ji (Sinomeni Caulis et Rhizoma , 防己).

1. Qing E Wan (靑娥元 Beautiful Young Maiden Pill)

 

治腎虛腰痛. 杜冲(薑汁炒)ㆍ破古紙(炒) 各四兩, 胡桃肉 三十箇. 右爲末, 生薑二兩半取汁, 入煉蜜和丸梧子大, 空心, 溫酒, 或鹽湯呑下百丸. 《丹心》

 

This treats lumbago due to a kidney deficiency. Du Chong (stir-bake with ginger juice), ) and Po Gu Zhi (破故紙) (stir-bake, each four liang), and Hu Tao Rou (thirty pieces of walnuts). Grind these herbs and then mix with honey that is boiled down with ginger juice gathered from two and half Liang of ginger. Make pills as big as the seed of the royal foxglove tree. Take hundred pills with warm alcohol or salt water on an empty stomach.

 

2. Jia Wei Qing E Wan (加味靑娥元 Modified Beautiful Young Maiden Pill)

 

治腎腰或風寒, 血氣相搏爲痛. 破故紙 六兩(脂麻同炒變色去脂麻). 杜冲 六兩(薑汁浸炒), 胡桃肉ㆍ沈香ㆍ乳香ㆍ沒藥 各三兩. 右爲末, 以肉蓯蓉六兩, 酒浸成膏, 和藥擣千杵, 丸如梧子大, 溫酒, 或鹽湯下五七十丸. 《醫鑑》

 

This treats lumbago due to a kidney deficiency or mutual contention of blood- qi and wind-cold. Po Gu Zhi (破故紙), Du Chong (杜冲 each six liang) ), and Hu Tao Rou(胡桃肉), Chen Xiang (沈香), Ru Xiang (乳香) and Mo Yao (沒藥 each three liang).

 

3. Zhuang Ben Dan (Strengthen Root Elixir 壯本丹),

 

治腎虛腰痛甚妙. 杜冲(酒炒)ㆍ破故紙(鹽水炒)ㆍ茴香(炒) 各一兩, 肉蓯蓉(酒洗)ㆍ巴戟(酒浸)ㆍ靑鹽 各五錢. 右爲末, 將猪腰子分開, 入藥在內縫住, 紙包煨熟, 每一箇作一服, 以黃酒送下. 《醫鑑》

This treats lumbago due to a kidney deficiency. It is very effective. Du Chong (杜冲) Po Gu Zhi (破故紙) Hui Xiang (茴香, each one liang) rou cong rong (肉蓗蓉), Ba Ji(巴戟) and Natrii Chloridum (靑鹽 each one liang). Grind these herbs. Cut open the kidney of a pig and then add these herbs. Seal the kidney and cover with paper. Roast this on an ash Fire and take one of these with yellow alcohol.

 

4. Ju Fang An Shen Wan (Imperial Grace Calm Kidneys Pill 局方安腎元),

治腎虛腰痛, 下元虛冷, 小便滑數. 桃仁ㆍ白蒺藜ㆍ巴戟ㆍ肉蓯蓉ㆍ山藥ㆍ破故紙ㆍ白茯苓ㆍ石斛ㆍ萆薢ㆍ白朮 各二兩四錢, 川烏(炮)ㆍ肉桂 各一兩三錢. 右爲末, 蜜丸梧子, 空心, 酒下五七十丸. 《入門》

 

This treats lumbago due to a kidney deficiency with frequent urination due to deficient cold of the lower origin.

Tao Ren (桃仁), Bai Ji Li (白蒺藜), Ba Ji (巴戟), RouCong Rong (肉蓗蓉), Shan Yao (山藥), Po Gu Zhi (破故紙), Bai Fu ling (白茯苓), Shi Hu (石斛), Bi Xie (萆薢) and Bai Zhu (白朮, each two liang and four qiiang), and Chuan Wu (川烏) Rou Gui (肉桂 each one liang three qian). Grind these herbs and then mix with honey. Make pills as big as the seed of the royal foxglove tree. Take fifty to seventy pills with alcohol on an empty stomach.

 

5. Bu Sui Dan (Tonify Marrow Elixir 補髓丹)

 

治腎虛腰痛. 破故紙 五兩, 以脂麻 二兩(半同炒去脂麻), 杜冲(薑汁炒) 五兩, 鹿茸 一兩, 沒藥 五錢. 右爲末, 胡桃肉十五箇軟膏入麪少許, 酒煮爲糊作丸梧子大, 空心, 鹽湯下百丸. 《東垣》

 

This treats lumbago due to a kidney deficiency. Po Gu Zhi (破故紙 five liang), Du Chong (杜冲 five liang) Lu Rong (鹿茸 one liang), Mo Yao (沒藥 five qian). Grind these herbs. Mix these with a plaster-like mixture made with fifteen pieces of walnut, little bit of flour and alcohol. Make pills as big as the seed of the royal foxglove tree. Take a hundred pills with salt water on an empty stomach.

 

6. Jiu Wei An Shen Wan (Nine Ingredients Calm Kidneys Pill 九味安腎丸)

 

治腎虛腰痛, 目眩耳聾, 面黑羸瘦. 胡蘆巴ㆍ破故紙(炒)ㆍ川練肉ㆍ茴香ㆍ續斷 各一兩半, 桃仁ㆍ杏仁ㆍ山藥ㆍ白茯苓 各一兩. 右爲末, 蜜丸梧子大, 空心, 鹽湯下五七十丸. 《三因》

 

This treats lumbago due to a kidney deficiency with dizziness, deafness, blackened face, and emaciation.

Hu Ru Ba (葫蘆巴), Po Gu Zhi (破故紙) (stir-fried one), Chuan Lian Rou (川練肉), Hui Xiang (茴香) and Xu Duan Radix (續斷 one liang and half), Tao Ren (桃仁), Xing Ren (杏仁), Shan Yao (山藥) and Fu Ling (白茯苓 each one liang).

Grind these herbs and then mix these with honey. Make pills as big as the seed of the royal foxglove tree. Take fifty to seventy pills of these with salt water on an empty stomach.

 

7. Bai Bei Wan (Hundredfold Pill 百倍丸),

 

治腎虛腰腿痛, 及折傷挫閃, 有百倍之功. 破故紙(炒)ㆍ牛膝(酒洗)ㆍ龜板(酥灸) 各一兩, 肉蓯蓉ㆍ虎骨 各五錢, 木鼈子ㆍ乳香ㆍ沒藥ㆍ自然銅(火煆醋淬九次) 各二錢. 右末, 蜜丸梧子大, 空心, 溫酒, 或鹽湯下三五十丸. 《入門》

 

This It treats lumbago and leg pain due to kidney deficiency, fracture damage, or a sprain. It is very effective. Pu Gu Zhi (破故紙) Niu Xi (牛膝) and Gui Ban (龜板 each one liang) rou cong rong (肉蓗蓉) and Hu Gu (虎骨 each five qian), and Mu Bie Zi (木鼈子), Ru Xiang (乳香), Mo Yao (沒藥) and Zi Ran Tong (自然銅). Grind these herbs and then mix with honey. Make pills as big as the seed of the royal foxglove tree. Take thirty to fifty pills with warm alcohol or salt water. B146

 

8. Du Chong Wan (Eucommia Pill 杜冲丸),

治腎虛腰痛, 動止軟弱, 脈大虛, 疼不已. 杜冲(薑汁炒)ㆍ龜板(酥灸)ㆍ黃柏ㆍ知母(幷鹽水炒)ㆍ枸杞子ㆍ五倍子ㆍ當歸ㆍ白芍藥ㆍ黃芪ㆍ破故紙(炒) 各一兩. 右爲末, 煉蜜, 入猪脊髓和丸梧子大, 空心, 鹽湯呑下八十丸或百丸. 《入門》

 

This treats lumbago due to kidney deficiency with forceless movement, a pulse that is large and vacuous, incessant pain.

Du Chong (杜冲) Gui Ban (龜板) Huang Bai (黃柏) and Zhi Mu (知母) Gou Qi Zi (枸杞子), Wu Bei Zi (五倍子), Dang Gui (當歸), Bai Shao Yao (白芍藥), Huang Qi (黃芪) and Po Gu Zhi (破故紙). Take eighty to hundred pills on an empty stomach.

9. Bu Shen Tang (Tonify Kidneys Decoction 補腎湯)

治腎虛腰痛. 破故紙(炒)ㆍ茴香(鹽酒炒)ㆍ玄胡索ㆍ牛膝(酒洗)ㆍ當歸(酒洗)ㆍ杜冲(酒炒)ㆍ黃柏ㆍ知母(幷鹽酒炒) 各一錢. 右剉, 作一貼, 薑 三片, 水煎, 空心服. 《醫鑑》

 

This treats lumbago due to a kidney deficiency. Po Gu Zhi (破故紙) Hui Xiang (茴香) Xuan Hu Suo (玄胡索), Niu Xi (牛膝) Dang Gui (當歸) Du Chong (杜冲) Huang Bai (黃柏) and Zhi Mu (知母) ( each one liang). Cut these herbs to make one package. Add three pieces of ginger and then boil in water. Take this on an empty stomach.
